Grenevia to receive PLN 21 million in EU funding to develop competencies in wind energy

Three flags: European Funds, Republic of Poland, European Union, and the coat of arms of the Silesian Voivodeship.

Grenevia SA will receive almost PLN 21 million in EU funding for the development of technology and services for wind energy. The project, with a total value of around PLN 68 million, is part of the plans to build a Polish wind turbine, i.e. to start production of wind turbines using domestic resources.

The goal of the investment project is to develop new renewable energy technologies and services, in particular – production and repairs of wind turbine components and gearboxes for wind power generation. The project includes the purchase of a licence for wind turbine production technology and the development of a machinery fleet to allow for the expansion of wind gearbox production and modernisation. A test rig for testing gearboxes under load will also be equipped for the necessary tests and trials.

The grant awarded is the wind in the sails of our business transformation, in particular the FAMUR segment, which is part of Grenevia and which efficiently uses its competences and production capacities to strengthen its position in the area of RES. Equally importantly, the realisation of the entire investment fits directly into the Grenevia Group's Sustainable Development Strategy.

Beata Zawiszowska, CEO of Grenevia SA

The project is also in line with the environmental and economic transformation strategies that underpin the European Green Deal, including in particular the Silesian Voivodeship Development Strategy "SILESIA 2030" - Green Silesia and the Territorial Just Transition Plan for Silesia 2030.

This is an important moment. Thanks to the EU funding, Grenevia, as part of the FAMUR segment, will be able to implement an ambitious project that strengthens the construction of Polish, and thus European, wind energy potential, but also has a second dimension - it will support employment in a region strongly affected by the changes brought about by the energy transition.

Mirosław Bendzera, CEO of FAMUR SA

It is estimated that the project will allow for retraining and retain or create new jobs for a total of 100 employees.

The total value of the project, the full name of which is "Diversification of activities towards a zero-emission economy and strengthening of employment potential", is PLN 68,077,406.53, of which PLN 20,947,894.32 will be funded under the European Funds for Silesia 2021-2027 programme, with the remainder of the project expenditure to be covered by the company. The parties to the agreement, signed on 25 June this year, are Grenevia SA and the Silesian Voivodeship – Silesian Centre for Entrepreneurship.

Polish wind turbine and Famur's transformation

The project to create a Polish wind turbine, i.e. the construction of wind farms based on a domestic workforce and supply chain, was presented by the Famur segment of Grenevia to the public in February this year.

The project does not only concern Grenevia itself, but opens up new prospects for almost the entire Polish industry, supporting national energy security. “We want to become the locomotive that will pull this project forward," commented Mr Bendzera at the time.

Since 2023, FAMUR has been a business segment of Grenevia, developing solutions and services for the wind sector in addition to its traditional mining presence. In 2023, the segment's offering was increased with the acquisition of Total Wind PL, whose core business is wind turbine installation services, as well as servicing and replacement of major components. In February 2024, the FAMUR Gearo area was established, which concentrates all activity related to wind power solutions within the segment.

The Grenevia Group is an active investor integrating and growing its business in four segments: large-scale photovoltaics, wind energy and energy storage ("RES") concentrated in the Projekt Solartechnik SA; battery systems for e-mobility and energy storage ("e-mobility") as IMPACT Clean Power Technology SA; modern solutions for the energy distribution sector ("power industry") within Elgór+Hansen SA; and solutions for the mining and wind energy sector under the FAMUR brand. The operations of the Group are focused on building the value of individual segments that support the transition to a low-carbon economy.

The FAMUR segment provides technologies and products for the mining and wind power sectors. The offer for underground mining enables Famur to equip any mine with a complete mining production system. The FAMUR Gearo area is developing its offer of overhauls, testing and technical consulting, as well as gearbox servicing for wind turbines.
